Don’t buy stolen goods

This warning follows a spike in the theft of circuit breakers from the newly installed meter enclosures.

Residents have been warned by Brakpan police to ensure they do not buy or sell stolen goods.

This warning follows a spike in the theft of circuit breakers from the newly installed meter enclosures.

The Herald recently reported that a man and a woman have been seen breaking open the orange boxes (November 11, ”Thieves target new circuit breakers”) to strip them of the valuable components.

The town has also experienced an increase in the theft of electric gate motors (November 11, ”Hekmotors word nog steeds gesteel”) as well as electric cables.

“These items are being stolen because there is a demand for them, which means someone is buying them,” said Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan Police Station commander.

“The buyer or seller of stolen goods is just as guilty as the criminal who stole them.

“Offenders can be heavily fined or receive harsh jail sentences.”

If you know of anyone buying or selling stolen goods, report them to the Brakpan police on 011 744 4940.
