Bikers gear up for 2016 Toy Run

Mass ride to snake its way from Carnival City to Benoni.

Thousands of bikers will convene at Carnival City on November 27 for a mass ride to Benoni as part of the 34th Annual Gauteng Motorcycle Toy Run.

Carrying gifts and toys for underprivileged children, they will snake their way to Benoni Northerns Athletics Club where the donations will be collected for distribution to children’s charities.

This will be the fourth time that Carnival City has provided a start venue for the event, and the sixth consecutive year that the Benoni Northerns Athletics Club has hosted the finish.

Various biker clubs will be participating in the mass ride from other venues from all over Gauteng.

Each year, some 20 000 bikers participate in the mass ride and over 25 000 gifts are collected to be distributed to service clubs and children-related charity organisations so that the children can celebrate Christmas with a gift.

The mass ride from Carnival City will commence at 6am.

With hundreds of bikes reviving and riders laden with toys, it is a spectacle that the community is encouraged to come down to see.

People not participating in the mass ride are also encouraged to visit Benoni Northerns Athletics Club to watch the bikers arrive and join in the fun.

There will be entertainment, as well as food and craft stalls.

The entrance fee is a toy.

Ideally, educational toys or toiletries should be donated.

No toy guns or knives will be accepted.

People are urged to bear in mind that battery operated toys are of little use once the batteries die.
