Church gives hope to hungry women and children

“We feed these women and children every Saturday thanks to the donations that we receive.”

What was supposed to be a once-off outreach project to assist the residents of the Magaleni informal settlement in Brakpan North has now turned into a weekly programme.

After seeing the hardship and poverty suffered by many residents of the settlement, pastor Zipho Mhlanga of the Latter Harvest Ministries now provides a meal to about 100 women and children every Saturday.

“My church had an outreach project in the winter, where we handed out blankets and food to the residents,” said Mhlanga.

“It became very clear that there was a great need and we decided to continue helping the people.”

Mhlanga has managed to get businesses and members of his church on board in order to supply a meal to the needy on a weekly basis.
