Robbers threaten cyclist with garden shears

The victim was cycling to work when he was confronted by two men.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

• Friday – A cyclist was robbed by two men who threatened him with a pair of garden shears.

The victim was cycling to work along Prince George Avenue, in Brenthurst, at about 5.15am, when he was stopped by the pair.

He was robbed of his cellphone and bicycle.

Two burglaries were reported.

These took place at addresses along Perdeskoen Crescent in Huntingdon, Brakpan North, and Seekoei Road, in Dalpark.

Two television sets and a laptop were stolen.

A woman was robbed of her handbag at gunpoint at the corner of Voortrekker Road and Gordon Street.

The victim was walking to catch a taxi at about 3.30pm, when she was approached by two men.

She fought one of the men as he grabbed her handbag, but the other then pointed a gun at her.

The robbers were seen getting into a grey vehicle, the make and model of which is unknown.

The woman’s handbag contained R250 cash, her ID book and South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) card.

• Saturday – A woman and her nine-year-old son were held up and robbed in their Porter Avenue home by three men.

The robbery took place at about 2.45pm and a female friend of the woman’s was also present during the incident.

One of the robbers confronted the woman in her kitchen and instructed her not to cry.

He asked her about the valuables in the house.

The woman saw two other men, one in the bedroom helping himself to a television set, and another in a different room.

Two of the men were armed with guns.

In addition to the television set, the robbers took two laptops and a cellphone.

They were seen fleeing in a white Audi.

Burglaries were reported at three homes.

Various household items, including television sets, a laptop, DVD player and jewellery were stolen from addresses along Pienaar Street, in Brenthurst, Elton Street, in Minnebron, and Prince George Avenue, in Anzac.

A case of business robbery was opened after a petrol station in Dalpark was robbed by six men.

The men, two of whom were armed with guns, entered the shop at the station just before midnight and ordered the cashier to open the till.

The gang fled with cash, cigarettes and groceries.

• Sunday – A white Volkswagen Golf was stolen from Mall@Carnival.
