Carnival Aquatics is making a big splash

Carnival Aquatics swimming coach Sjaan Enslin is incredibly proud after her team of 13 swimmers recently competed at and won five medals (three gold and two silver medals) at the recent Sasolburg Winter Championships.

The Brakpan-based swimmers also reached many event finals and achieved swimming level qualification times.

Christian De Gouveia achieved level two status in two of his events while JJ Waterson, Charlene Minnie, Kaylee van der Vyver and Jessica Bott all qualified for level one status.

Van der Vyver proved her talent by winning three gold medals at the championship while Bott brought home two silver medals.

“Most of our swimmers learned how to swim with us and have come from nothing to doing extremely well in competition swimming,” said Enslin.

The club is still in its infancy stages at three years old and is the smallest club in the Eastern Gauteng Aquatics fold.

Last year their swimmers began featuring at competitions.

Enslin told the Herald her goal for the club for the year was to have a swimmer from Carnival Aquatics qualifying for level two and hopefully another level two qualifier from the club as well as a level three qualifier by the end of next year.

“My focus is to build up my swimmers slowly but surely without too much pressure going forward.”

The club trains at the Brakpan Swimming Pool in summer and at the Boksburg North Swimming Pool in winter.
