A decade of making a difference

Each year, the Herald aims to collect as many blankets, socks, woollen hats, gloves and scarves as possible, and to distribute them to various welfare organisations in Brakpan.

A donation of hundreds of colourful and woolly socks has kick-started the Herald’s annual Winter Woollies Collection project.

The socks were donated by the children of St Columba’s School, in Benoni, who have generously supported the Herald’s project for the last three years.

The pupils also donated socks to two other worthy organisations.

Each year, the Herald aims to collect as many blankets, socks, woollen hats, gloves and scarves as possible, and to distribute them to various welfare organisations in Brakpan.

The project, which the Herald has run for the past 10 years, is greatly appreciated by the beneficiaries, who treasure a blanket and a pair of warm socks to shield them from the cold.

New and knitted socks, hats, gloves and scarves, or any new or old blankets in a good, clean condition, will be accepted.

Items can be delivered to the Herald’s office, at 61 Van der Walt Street, in Dalview.

The Herald politely requests that residents do not donate any other items of clothing for this specific project.
