Residents support SANBS during Blood Donor Month

A blood drive was held at Mall@Carnival on Saturday.

Numerous blood donors, and even first time donors, supported the blood drive that was held at the Mall@Carnival, on Saturday.

Mobile clinics were seen in the Dischem and Edgars Court, where donors received a gift from the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) after the donation.

Tsakane resident James Leburu was proud that he reached the 29th mark on Saturday.

“My brother was in a car accident years ago and he lost a large amount of blood. That’s when I realised how critical it is to donate blood,” he said.

“I’m going to encourage my children to also donate blood once they’re old enough.”

June is Blood Donor Month and the SANBS is appealing to citizens to donate blood.

The SANBS usually experiences a dip in donations during the winter season.

The organisation attributes the drop around this time of the year to mid-year school and university holidays.

Brakpan residents can donate blood at the SANBS Donor Centre, situated in the Mall@Carnival (shop 84).
