Prepare for sizzling hot humour this winter

Magtag!Om te lag is Pragtag! promises to be an unforgettable night dedicated to the wonderful sound of Afrikaans laughter.

Four well known Afrikaans comedians, with the outspoken Rian van Heerden in the driver’s seat as host, are set to descend on the Big Top Arena in June, adding some sizzling hot humour to the winter entertainment line-up at Carnival City.

On the bill for the authentically South African, multi-media comedy feast, Magtag!Om te lag is Pragtag!, on June 24 and 25 are Shimmy Isaacs, Melt Sieberhagen, Monique Nortje and Schalk Bezuidenhout.

Along with a special guest appearance by Bittereinder and a live video appearances by Suzelle DIY, this show will prove just how “lekker” it really is to have a good laugh.

Magtag!Om te lag is Pragtag! brings together great South African comedy, some of the best video sketch artists on the internet, the television channel that defined Afrikaans entertainment, ground breaking musical group Bittereinder and Rian Van Heerden to create an unforgettable night dedicated to the wonderful sound of Afrikaans laughter.

“For the quintessential Afrikaans comedy experience, do not miss Magtag!Om te lag is Pragtag!,” said Matthew Cook, the events and entertainment manager at Carnival City.

The show will have you in fits of hysterical laughter from start to finish.

“This local, lekker comedy in its rawest form, combined with audio visual elements which will blow you away.”

Top comedy producer, Whacked, which produces the show, feels that Afrikaans humour is unique in the world, and should be celebrated in a world-class way.

“Comedy has been going through a real boom in South Africa over the last few years, with bigger and more spectacular shows being staged – but almost all of them have favoured English,” said Marita Van Schalkwyk, creative director on this premium Whacked production.

“We thought we should put together something that really celebrates Afrikaans, as it is a unique language, and some of the greatest Afrikaans comedy writing just can’t be translated into any other language, without losing it’s real magic.

“With the migration of content away from the traditional formats such as “Spies en Plesier” and the amazing sketch work by artists such as Casper De Vries, we have seen the rise of amazing younger comedians who now define the Afrikaans comedy world across new platforms, not just on stage and screen but increasingly online.

“We want to stage an event that will capture this magic.

“We can’t wait for these two nights, where thousands of Afrikaans speaking people can get together and enjoy a spectacular show that celebrates and acknowledges the sheer hilarity of local comedy.”
