Lock the cage, it’s fight night!

The stage is set for what is anticipated to be one of the most memorable EFC fight nights in history at Carnival City’s Big Top Arena tonight (May 13).

A spectacular EFC 49 fight card has the tongues of fight fans wagging.

Excitement was palpable at the official EFC 49 media day which took place on Saturday, May 7 ahead of tonight’s mega event which is headlined by the vacant EFC middleweight title fight between South Africa’s JP “Tinkerbell” Kruger and England’s Yannick “Black Mamba” Bahati.

As humble as ever, fan favourite JP Kruger said: “I am so blessed to be back here and to feel all the fan support is amazing.

“We are going to keep this title in South Africa.

“We are going to keep it in the East Rand.”

His British opponent Bahati believes that he will claim his rightful place as “the best middleweight in EFC”.

“McLellan was a good middleweight champion, but if he was around when I signed with EFC I would have come out on top,” he said.

A heavyweight match-up between Andrew van Zyl and Tomasz Kowalkowski precedes the main event and is also expected to be a ripsnorter.

“If I can beat Andrew, I can beat every heavyweight in EFC,” said the Polish giant.

Zimbabwe’s submission expert Themba “The Answer” Gorimbo, a former title contender, faces a huge challenge in the dangerous Englishman Joe Cummins.

This will be Cummins ultimate test to prove that he belongs among the best in the talent rich organisation.

Former Brakpan wrestling champion JP Buys steps up a weight division to challenge Durban’s former title contender Abdul “Hollywood” Hassan in a battle between two of EFC’s best ground specialists.

There is also bad blood in the opening bout of the main card when Brendon Katz seeks revenge against Durban’s bad boy Wesley “Young Assassin” Hawkey.

All of these fights and an interesting preliminary card make this an EFC not to be missed.

Preliminary bouts start at 4.45pm while the main card bouts start at 8pm.
