No escape from wrath of the law

Sixteen drivers ended up behind bars for driving under the influence.

A no-nonsense approach adopted by EMPD officers during the Easter weekend bore fruit when crime prevention and traffic law enforcement went out in full force to ensure that those acting irresponsibly on public roads didn’t escape the wrath of the law.

Sixteen drivers ended up behind bars for driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor.

Six suspects were nabbed for possession of narcotics and another was arrested for possession of “Two-step” poison.

One male suspect, with a counterfeit R200 note, as well as another suspect found in possession of a stolen vehicle, were locked up at the Brakpan Police Station.

The EMPD impounded four unroadworthy vehicles and issued 217 summonses for various offences, including not having valid documentation and moving offences.

Twelve speedsters were caught along the R554 during an Easter weekend night speed law enforcement operation.

Two fatal accidents, in which two pedestrians were killed, were recorded in Brakpan and Tsakane.

On Sunday, last week, a 35-year-old male was killed in a hit-and-run.

The incident took place at 12.56am at the intersection of Sindance and Ndlovu streets, Tsakane.

On Monday, along Springs-West Road, a 37-year-old man was hit by a Volkswagen Polo at 8.30pm and died on the scene.

On Thursday, last week, EMPD officers attended to a shooting incident at 11am along Kitzinger Avenue, involving taxi drivers.
