EMPD cracks down on outstanding warrants

Bumper to Bumper, the new Chief of Police, Bafana Andries Mahlabe’s, strategy to break the back of criminality, took shape this week when 18 suspects were arrested on outstanding warrants in a special operation.

“The strategy includes ways and means of creating an atmosphere of police omnipresence which puts pressure on the criminals not to freely engage in their nefarious deeds,” explained spokesperson for the EMPD, Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

“Criminals are made to constantly look over their shoulders as the metro police breath down their necks.”

On November 10 The EMPD Public Order Policing Unit members embarked on a special operation to hunt down wanted criminals, suspects who skipped bail as well as those who failed to make an appearance at court.

The suspects were tracked down to their bedrooms and hiding places.

The special operation went on throughout the night until November 11 at 8am and yielded 18 suspects on outstanding warrants.

Three were nabbed for assault with grievous bodily harm, all three cases registered in this month at Kwa-Thema, Olifantsfontein and Edenpark police stations.

Two female suspects were rounded up on Katlehong SAPS cases registered earlier this month.

Suspects picked up for common assault numbered five with cases laid at Tsakane, Katlehong, Tembisa and Olifantsfontein police stations.

More suspects were also arrested for assault and robbery in an Alberton case; a robbery case of April 2015 in Tembisa; a motor vehicle theft case registered at the Tembisa South SAPS; on a theft and crimen injuria case at Edenpark; for a June 2015 theft case in Katlehong; for possession of stolen property – a March 2015 Edenpark case; one for the interference in police duties on a case registered this month in Kempton Park and for failure to produce proof of identification also registered at Kempton Park.
