Crackdown on Brakpan drug dealers

In an attempt to stamp out drug dealing and drug abuse in the town, the EMPD K9 Unit members blitzed the Brakpan area in search of drug peddlers, on Wednesday evening, between 7pm and midnight.

Three wanted drug dealers, two suspects in possession of dagga, one undocumented person and one person whose South African visa had an illegal alteration of dates were arrested.

The main objective of the special operation was to crackdown on drug dealers and other crimes.

Members of the EMPD K9 Unit focused on drug houses, taverns and also conducted stop-and-searches, testing persons on the MCD (morpho-touch) to check for possible wanted persons.

Four taverns and five private houses were pounced on. In one tavern, three suspects wanted for drug dealing were nabbed. In one of the houses which was searched, two male suspects were found in possession of 5.7kg of dagga valued at R5,000.

One man with his visa contents illegally modified and an undocumented person were also arrested during the raid.

Fifty-eight counterfeit DVDs and thirteen fake CDs were also confiscated.

All the suspects, whose ages range between 26 and 40, were charged at Brakpan police station and appeared in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Thursday).
