How many motorists still have to be injured or killed?

Tinus and Esta Dannhauser write by e-mail: I believe that all vehicle drivers have encountered some issues on our roads, mostly because of taxis.

This problem is getting worse by the day with the majority of drivers blatantly and deliberately ignoring traffic rules.

They are their own law on our roads, endangering the lives of other road users and their passengers and when you dare to hoot at them when they are in the wrong, these drivers are arrogant and respond with finger signs and shout racist remarks.

Their new strategy when approaching an intersection at high speed when the traffic light has turned amber, is to flash their lights at oncoming traffic waiting to turn to show that they will be ignoring the red traffic light and that you have to wait.

This happens most of the time at the crossing of the R23 and R554 at the Carnival City intersection, as well as the entrance into Dalpark 1.

Commuters and mainly taxis also use the second lane on the R554 to turn right onto the R23 but this lane is not for traffic turning.

They then block the traffic coming from Brakpan turning right onto the R23, and block the view of the drivers who are adhering to the traffic rules by being in the turn only lane.

At the entrance to Dalpark 1, taxis also stop in the turn only lane and before the robot turns green for them they start driving, cutting in front of motorists in the other lanes.

Many of them cross the intersection and stop where Dalpark 1 residents are supposed to drive when exiting the suburb.

They stop to offload or pick up people and block the traffic.

How many motorists still have to be injured or killed on our roads through such reckless driving before something is done and stricter rules are enforced?
