Hijackers take off with victims still in the car

A 22-year-old women and her aunt suffered a terrible ordeal on Monday evening when they were confronted by armed hijackers.

“I drove from Springs with my aunt and we were on our way to Masefield Street in Dalpark, to drop something off at a friend’s house,” said the 22-year-old, who wishes to remain anonymous.

“When we arrived at their driveway, we hooted and my aunt walked to the gate while I went to the backseat to get the things.”

A white Toyota Corolla with four occupants appeared and blocked the women’s vehicle, a Volkswagen Golf 5, in the driveway.

Two of the occupants, armed with firearms, approached the women and demanded that they get in the backseat of the Golf.

“They pushed us in the backseat and ordered us to hand over any jewellery or cellphones. That’s when one of the suspects took my car keys.”

The two hijackers then jumped into the vehicle and took off, with the women still sitting in the back.

“My auntie pleaded with them to let us go. I don’t know how long we were driving around for until they decided that we could go.

“They didn’t stop the car. The car was still moving while we got out.”

The two victims were not injured and a case of hijacking was opened at the Brakpan SAPS.
