Eight copper cable thieves arrested

The long arm of the law caught up with eight thieves, who were arrested by Brakpan police for the theft of copper cables.

A tip-off led members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department’s (EMPD) Equestrian Unit and the Brakpan Anti-Hijacking Task Team to the Sallies Mine Hostel, on Monday morning.

Upon arrival a large amount of stolen copper cable was found and eight men were arrested.

“The copper cables were enough to fill the back of more than one EMPD vehicle; the value of the cables has not been determined yet,” said Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan Police Station commander.

The eight men will appear soon, in the Brakpan Magistrates Court.
