Six youngsters tied up, beaten and left traumatised by armed robbers

Four armed and aggressive house robbers targeted a house in Augrabies Avenue, Dalpark, on Friday evening, at about 7.45pm, and terrorised six young people who were in the house at the time.

The homeowner and father of one of the victims told the Herald what happened during the incident. He also requested that they all should remain anonymous.

“My wife and I were on our way to Durban and dropped off our son, who is 20 years old, at family in Boksburg,” he said.

“Later that day, he and five other people, who are relatives and friends, went back to our house.

”As he entered the house and wanted to switch on the lights he suddenly heard a loud voice. A man ordered him to lie down on his stomach.”

All the victims, ranging in age from 18 to 21, were tied up with shoelaces and kept in the same room, while one of the robbers kept a watchful eye on the victims.

“There were four armed robbers; three of them were busy ransacking the house, while the other one held the victims at gunpoint,” said the homeowner.

“He pointed two guns at them and also used it to beat them up. Our son took a heavy blow to the head and the others were also beaten up badly. Some of them had to receive stitches.”

The robbers then took off with a TV set, laptop, shoes, radios and a cousin’s vehicle.

“My son and the others are traumatised at this stage; we will have to send them for counselling,” said the man.

A case of house robbery was opened at the Brakpan Police Station.
