Guard your roof: burglars take to the heights

Brakpan police have warned business owners to ensure that security is well enforced all around the business premises.

This follows the reporting of business burglaries, where entry was gained through the roof.

One of the latest incidents of this specific type of crime was at a business, situated in Denne Road, Vulcania, on Friday, July 31.

Burglars gained entry into the business’s roof by removing corrugated sheets. A camera decoder, palletised material and a pile of plastic rolls were stolen.

“If possible, business owners should also invest in alarms for the roof area, to prevent burglars from gaining entry through the roof without being detected,” said Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan Police Station commander.

“If there are security guards patrolling the business premises, they should be informed of this occurrence to ensure that they don’t focus only on the ground area.”
