Legionnaire’s select committee
The Brakpan branch of the SA Legion held its annual general meeting at the Cosy Corner Moth Cottages, recently.
The meeting was attended by SA Legion national president Lgr Godfrey Giles, as well as the national secretary, Lgr Marrietta Venter.
The SA Legion is a well-known organisation, with many branches around the world.
Giles discussed several projects and upcoming events which will be taking place during the rest of the year, as well as next year.
The executive committee members elected for the Brakpan branch for 2013/2014 are Lgr Rees Davies (branch chairman), Lgr Ray Mubbut (branch vice-chairman), Lgr Merle Pearson (honorary treasurer) and Lgr Rina Esterhuizen (honorary secretary).
The additional committee members are Dot Sherriff, Louise Rosenbrock, Colin McCann, Moira Archibald, Max Windrich and Joe Esterhuizen.
During the meeting it was unanimously decided to appoint Lgr Father Mike Strathern as life president of the Brakpan branch.
Strathern has been chairman of the Brakpan branch for numerous years and is a real stalwart; it is a great pleasure for us to honour him in this way, said Davies.
