Big J wins music award

Freeway Park’s Jan Snyman, also known as Big J, is making waves in the music industry, especially with his country music.

Big J’s love for music started as a child and has grown ever since. He has been singing for over 40 years.

“I have a passion for music, and even though I enjoy the golden oldies and country, with my deep voice, I can sing any genre. My choice of songs includes the latest Afrikaans music as well. It is important to have a variation of music because not all crowds are the same.

“I don’t only sing. I am also an MC, DJ and events creator. When I see an opportunity, I take it and make a good party or event even better.
“I am a social media influencer as well. I go live on TikTok every evening, allowing others to join me and encouraging up-and-coming artists to pursue their careers and follow their dreams,” added the musician.

A highlight for Big J was when he recently won a South African Country Music Association Foundation (SACMAF) award.

Big J received the award for the country cover male artist of the year in Pretoria on October 4 for the cover he did of Kenny Rogers’ She Believes in Me.
“I still don’t have any words about winning. This song is close to my heart.

“It was a night of glitz and glam. Touch of Class, Tommy Gloss, Eugene Havenga, Vernon Muso and Scallywag were also there.

“I entered four songs, of which three were original.”
He looks up to the Afrikaans singer Juanita du Plessis and wants to do a duet with her. The late musician Theuns Jordaan is also an inspiration to him.

Furthermore, Big J is heavily involved in the community.

In July, with the help of bikers and friends, he donated R7 000 to Jason’s Angels, which deals with abused women.
