Art gallery opened to unite artists

The art gallery has different sections.

The Art Club studio in Van Dyk Park officially opened an art gallery on July 1.

The gallery comprises of an exhibition, fabric printing and knitting, batik art, photo studio and art classroom sections.

Founder of the studio, Emmanuel Kaitano, said a lot of artists have already warmed-up to the art gallery and they have displayed their artwork in it.

“A lot of our community members are going to benefit a lot from the art gallery. This will be the hub for all the artists in Ekurhuleni and my aim is to establish an exchange programme in the gallery where all artists will be teaching each other various art techniques.

“The programme will also cater for those who want to become artists. I’m already teaching a lot of young people how to draw and paint in the art classroom section in the gallery, on Sundays for free. All of them have potential to be good artists one day,” he explained.

Kaitano said he is happy that he managed to open the gallery because it has always been his dream to open it.

“My aim now is to produce more artists from the art classroom. I want to create an environment wherein artists can sustain themselves through art.

“We have been also helping school learners with their art assignments, and this shows that the gallery is already playing integral part in the community,” expressed Kaitano.

Kaitano added that art can change people’s lives for the better.

“Art has changed my life and helped me a lot, and I think it can also do the same for other people. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the residents of Van Dyk Park and all the organisations that supported me to realise my dream,” he stated.

Kaitano said he needs donation of equipment for the art classroom learners, such as art paints, brushes, chairs and tables.
