Blitzes will continue in an effort to stamp out crime.

Routine operations conducted by members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) ensured that seven suspects were arrested for various crimes, from June 20 to 24.

Assault
On June 21 officers arrested two men on charges of assault.

The men were apprehended in Isithama Section and Difateng Section, Thembisa. They will be facing charges of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Possession of drugs
In further policing, five suspects were arrested for alleged possession of drugs.

They were arrested on North Road and Bosch Street, Kempton Park, Moodley and Sadet streets, Actonville, Kempston Avenue and Park Street, as well as Turvey Street and Elston Avenue, Benoni.

Heroin and meth were recovered. The suspects will appear in court soon.

Possession of firearms and ammunition
On June 16, members of the Germiston Flying Squad were conducting routine operations on the N12, when they flagged a grey VW AH1 near the Kingsway off-ramp.

When officers approached the vehicle, the driver pointed a 9mm pistol at the members resulting in him being shot in the knee.

Three of the occupants fled the scene while the remaining 11 were arrested when officers found them to be in possession of three 9mm pistols and 12 rounds of R1 ammunition.

The driver was taken to hospital for treatment while the others were detained at the Crystal Park Police Station.

Rapid Response Services (RRS) successes
RRS units comprising of the Flying Squad, K9 units and Highway Patrol members, arrested 141 suspects throughout Gauteng, from June 16 to 2.

Officers recovered 16 firearms and 53 vehicles.

During the routine blitz, 80 arrests were made on charges including assault with the intent of causing grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen goods, attempted murder, theft, malicious damage to property, execution of warrants of arrest, possession of unpolished diamonds, reckless and negligent driving, contempt of court, burglary, contravention of a protection order, armed robbery, illegal possession of precious metals, possession of counterfeit money and possession of unlicensed ammunition.

The team also recovered 53 stolen and hijacked vehicles accompanied by eight arrests while 16 unlicensed firearms were seized along with 11 arrests on charges of being in possession of these weapons.

In further policing, 42 arrests were made for the possession and dealing of drugs.

Heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and meth were confiscated.
