Thousands of people flocked to Casa dos Poveiros in Dayanglen to enjoy the Caravela Portuguese Festival from June 2 to 4.
It was a fun-filled three-day festival, presented by the Portuguese Forum of South Africa, for the entire family with world-class music, food and lifestyle events.
Artists like Prime Circle, Mi Casa, Jesse Clegg and Lee Cole, and Afrikaans superstars Riana Nel, and Bobby van Jaarsveld entertained festival-goers.
Chairperson of the Portuguese Forum Manny Ferreirinha explained the event is about celebrating the Portuguese.
In keeping with the generous community spirit of Portuguese South Africans, part of the proceeds will go to the Boksburg SPCA and Hospice East Rand. By time of publication it was still unclear how much funds were raised for the organisations.
Tony Silva, who came to the event with his family, said he enjoyed it and it was well organised.
“The event is family-orientated. I drove all the way from Rusternburg after seeing the exciting pictures of the event on the social media. I don’t regret coming here. I’m really enjoying myself with my family.
“I came to celebrate my culture and I want my children to be proud of their culture.”
Another attendee of the event, Tanya Chiao, said she loves it. “I came to the event on June 3 and I told myself that I’m also coming back the next day. And I really came back today. I enjoyed both days here,” said Chiao.
