Safety tips for using a gas heater in winter

We give you some safety tips when using a gas heater.

As winter approaches, most of us will rely on our gas heaters to keep us warm during the cold weather, and more so because of load-shedding.

So here are some safety tips to follow when using a gas heater:
• To avoid danger when switching on the gas heater, ensure that all the components are correctly connected and that there are no leaks in the pipe.
• Do not use outdoor gas heaters in the house because they could be hazardous to your loved ones, give off carbon monoxide, and leave everyone dizzy and struggling to breathe.
• To avoid accidents, do not place power cords in doorways.
• Opening the windows occasionally when using a gas heater inside will let the carbon monoxide escape and let fresh air in.
• Always switch off the gas cylinder, not only the on and off buttons.
• Do not remove the regulator while the heater is on. It can be hazardous to everyone in the house at the time.
• Do not move the heater while it is on because it can cause a leak that could result in an explosion.
• Always stay 1m away when using a gas heater.
• To avoid explosions or causing a fire, do not use flammable chemicals close to the heater, especially when it’s in use.
• Keep your kids and pets far away from the heater because they could get burnt.
• Do not use a gas heater to dry your laundry because it could cause a fire.
