Here is Lamborghini’s latest V12 heir: The Revuelto

Lamborghini recently unveiled their all-new V12-powered Aventador successor. Previously known as codename LB744, this unruly Revuelto is a car of many firsts for the Italian automaker.

Diving straight into the powertrain, the two-seat flagship doesn’t deviate too far away from the traditions of V12 power for the Raging Bull, however, this time around, Lamborghini has opted for hybrid assistance in the form of electric motors and a small battery.

The reason we are all here though is for that 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 which sings to 9 250r/min and can produce 598kW all on its own. But, total maximum outputs are rated at 736kW since two electric motors sit on the front wheels while a third supplements the rear axle, placed between the eight-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox. The transmission in itself is another first for the automaker as is the 3.8 kWh battery pack crammed within the engine bay.

Tiny battery right? Yes, it can only manage around 10km of FWD EV-only driving if fully charged and the behemoth motor would take around six minutes to get it back to the full state of health. Yes again, when in EV mode, the Revuelto silently moves forward courtesy of the front wheels only.

Moving outside the mid-mounted engine bay, we get a glimpse of the natural evolution of what Lamborghini’s design language is all about. Angles, intersecting bodylines and an overall striking silhouette make this instantly recognisable as a Raging Bull flagship. Taking inspiration from several of its antecedents, there is a clear link to Sian, Huracan, Diablo and Murcielago with the exterior styling of the model.

Living in an age where the dark arts of aerodynamics play a crucial part in the design of a high-performance hypercar and closer inspection of the Revuelto will reveal that it is not exempt. With air dams, funnels and diffusers located all around the car aiding improved airflow for downforce and keeping the massive engine breathing, Lamborghini designers have gone to town to ensure that the functionality of it all cohesively filters into the daring styling known of the Italian firm. Just look at that massive rear diffuser hiding even larger optional 355/25R22 tyres!

Time to jump inside, pull the door handle and marvel at the scissor doors opening upwards, pioneered by the Revuelto forefather; the Countach. Driving purists will appreciate that despite three interior screens, none of the festooning digital facades detracts the driver away from crucial duties. Behind the steering wheel is a 12.3-inch display which gives important driving information. To its flank is an 8.4-inch screen mounted portrait and the passenger, or co-pilot gets a horizontal 9.1-inch screen that can control climate control, music and navigation. Co-pilot remember? The logical decision with all of this is to ensure the driver does just that, an unruly 736kW is nothing to take lightly.

Speaking of unruly, that is where the name is derived from in Spanish and for a change, it is a befitting one for the car that is set for. The Revuelto will arrive towards the end of the year with pricing expected closer towards then.
