Zwartkops Raceway to open 2023 with a roar of adrenaline

The Passion for Speed Festival formula of racing events, presents racing fans with great variety and the first event for 2023, will set the tone for the championship aspirations of many competitors. 

The first event will be held at Zwartkops Raceway on 27 and 28 January.

Some of the highlights fans can look forward to you will be the Porsche 917s and Ford GT40s, to Lola T70s and more, to Chev Camaros and Ford Mustangs, et al in the Auto Truck & Tyre Pre’74 International Sports Prototypes and Trans Am races.

Many of those cars, as well as Daytona and AC Cobras, and Porsches, will also be out in the traditional 45 Minute Castrol Pre-’66/68 Le Mans Sports & GT TT race. This one’s been won by some illustrious machinery over the past quarter century, so rest assured that the 2023 race will be no different.

The giant-killing Chevy Camaros, Nova, Impalas; Ford Galaxies, Mustangs and Fairlanes, Mercurys, Plymouths and Studebakers driven by SA’s top racers in the Marlboro Crane Hire Pre’66 Legends of the 9 Hour Production Cars will also present its rejuvenated energy after the holiday season.

Ben Morgenrood Historic Racing South Africa will commence its new championship season as always, at the Passion for Speed, with races for both Sprint and Pursuit classes. The 2023 Midvaal Historics and Trofeo, and Historic Single Seater championships also get cracking at the epic Zwartkops weekend.

Many a race fan will however be more in tune with the Passion for Speed’s contemporary G&H Transport Extreme Supercars and BMW M Performance Parts Race Series. Expect a few new GT3 Supercars to debut at the Passion for Speed season opener, with talk of AMG GT3s, Aston Martins and others to take on the existing Lambos, Porsches, and Ferraris.
