Drommedaris Primary dance team claim district award

Many exceptional schools, including Goedehoop Primary, brought their highly talented learners who delivered great performances.

Drommedaris Primary School management is proud of its group of creative dancers for taking the top prize at the Ekurhuleni South District’s interschool arts and culture competition.

The event, organised by the Gauteng Department of Education, was recently held at Goedehoop Primary School, where Drommedaris’ dancers competed against other schools from the district. The school emerged the champions, earning the top honour of ‘outstanding performance’ at the competition and was awarded a trophy.

When creative arts teacher Lerato Swarts entered the dance crew to perform, she expected the learners to perform well but never imagined the recognition they would receive.

She said the school’s dancers have been rehearsing for a short period before the competition.

“Many exceptional schools, including Goedehoop Primary, brought their highly talented learners, such as marimba, drum majorettes and dance teams, which delivered great performances.

“I was shocked when we were announced as the winners and awarded the top prize. It was such a great experience, and I’m excited.
“I give credit to these children because they deserve it. This will help them gain more confidence and believe in themselves,” said Swarts.

The school’s acting principal, Antonie Lottering, expressed similar feelings, saying they felt highly honoured by the recognition. He pointed out the award is an affirmation of all the hard work the art department teams, including the learners, have put in.
