Weekend viewing

It's weekend, which means time to catch up on some of the movies that got released this week.

First up is a brilliant and hilarious animation about a teen who suddenly “poofs” into a giant red panda when she gets too excited. Then watch a time-travelling pilot team up with his younger self and his late father to come to terms with his past while saving the future. Or opt for a sci-fi thriller that follows mankind’s earliest settlers on the Martian frontier and what they must do to survive.

Disney and Pixar’s Turning Red introduces Mei Lee, a confident, dorky 13-year-old torn between staying her mother’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. Her protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming, is never far from her daughter—an unfortunate reality for the teenager. And as if changes to her interests, relationships and body weren’t enough, whenever she gets too excited (which is practically always), she “poofs” into a giant red panda! Now showing at a cinema near you.

After accidentally crash-landing in 2022, time-travelling fighter pilot Adam Reed teams up with his 12-year-old self for a mission to save the future. Watch The Adam Project on Netflix.

Mankind’s earliest settlers on the Martian frontier, llsa and Reza, inhabit a desolate farmstead with their child Remmy. They work the land and shield their daughter from the dangers of the harsh surroundings. When hostile intruders threaten to expel them from the compound the family is forced to fight to survive the cosmic elements and one another. Catch Settlers on Showmax.
