Give your tech devices a spring clean

Our TV’s, phones and laptops are working overtime with us being home more, so show them some love with a thorough spring clean.

Step up your spring cleaning ritual this year by giving your hardworking tech a deep cleaning, decluttering and all-round spruce up with these five steps from SKYWORTH:

Start with a stock take

Go through every room in your home and check all the devices you have. There may be a gaming system the kids aren’t using anymore or a TV in the guest room that’s gathering dust. Give all devices a good clean and check that everything still works. Set aside old computers, modems, cables and cords that are no longer being used and separate them into two piles: giveaway and throwaway.

Sweep and declutter

Blurry photos, outdated emails and unused apps clog up your phone and laptop and prevent these devices from performing at their best. Delete everything you don’t need to free up space and make it easier to find what you are looking for.

Back up regularly

Accidentally deleting a beloved photo or important document can happen so easily and cause so much drama. Back up your data often, be it on a cloud service or hard drive, and rest assured that you can access any mistakenly deleted files without any stress.

Sanitising doesn’t stop with your hands

Our phones, keyboards and TV remotes are touched all day and can become really grimy in no time. Prevent major germ buildup on your home or work tech with a good wipe down. Use a microfiber cloth, special screen-cleaning or alcohol-based disinfectant wipes to clean your tech and it’s accessories. Never apply any liquids directly to your tech and avoid any openings. Only use household cleaners that are specifically designed for tech. Blow out any dust or dirt that may be sitting inside your keyboard or your tech’s inner components by using a can of compressed air.

Recycle the leftovers

Take your “throwaway” tech pile to your local recycling station or ask at a nearby tech shop where to take your old tech to be recycled and disposed of properly.
