Weekend viewing

Your search for what to watch this weekend just got easier. Why? Because we have three feel-good movies to get you into the long weekend mood.

We’re kicking off with an adventure-filled Amazon-jungle expedition featuring a wise-cracking skipper who takes an intrepid researcher to find an ancient tree that holds the power to heal. Then follow a music-loving kinkajou who embarks on the journey of a lifetime to fulfil his destiny and deliver a love song for an old friend. Or watch a comedy about a lonely man with low self-esteem, who participates in a self-help programme that challenges him to say ‘yes’ to everything in life for an entire year.

Inspired by the famous Disneyland theme park ride, Jungle Cruise is an adventure-filled, rollicking thrill-ride down the Amazon with wisecracking skipper Frank Wolff and intrepid researcher Dr Lily Houghton. Lily travels from London, England to the Amazon jungle and enlists Frank’s questionable services to guide her downriver on La Quila—his ramshackle-but-charming boat. Lily is determined to uncover an ancient tree with unparalleled healing abilities—possessing the power to change the future of medicine. Thrust on this epic quest together, the unlikely duo encounters innumerable dangers and supernatural forces, all lurking in the deceptive beauty of the lush rainforest. Showing at a cinema near you.

Vivo follows a one-of-kind kinkajou (aka a rainforest “honey bear”) who spends his days playing music to the crowds in a lively square with his beloved owner Andrés. Though they may not speak the same language, Vivo and Andrés are the perfect duos through their common love of music. But when tragedy strikes shortly after Andrés receives a letter from the famous Marta Sandoval, inviting her old partner to her farewell concert with the hope of reconnecting, it’s up to Vivo to deliver a message that Andrés never could: A love letter to Marta, written long ago, in the form of a song. Yet to get to Marta, who lives a world apart, Vivo will need the help of Gabi – an energetic tween who bounces to the beat of her own offbeat drum to fulfil his owner’s wishes. Now showing on Netflix.

Carl Allen is stuck in a rut with his negative ways. Then he goes to a self-help seminar and learns to unleash the power of yes. Living in the affirmative leads him to all sorts of amazing and transforming experiences; he gets a job promotion, and even finds a new romance. But Carl finds that too much of anything, even positive thinking, is not necessarily a good thing. Watch Yes Man on Showmax.
