BMW M2 CS has been unveiled

The new M2 in CS guise will join the successful M3 CS and M4 CS in providing a basis for a competitive racing model with further weight saving additions made to the exterior and interior of the vehicle. The latest variant features an array of design elements made from carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) they include the newly designed bonnet, a new roof made entirely from CFRP, front splitter, spoiler lip on the boot lid and a rear diffuser in exposed carbon fibre while M2 CS customers will gain exclusive access to the Misano Blue metallic paint finish for the rest of the body. The CS will put the power down via the Adaptive M suspension and 19-inch Y-spoke forged wheels in high-gloss Black or, as an option, a matt gold finish. The front wheels are shod with 245/35 ZR 19 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres while the rear receives 265/35 ZR 19. Owners can specify Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres as a no-cost option should they be inclined to use the M2 CS for daily driving.

The M2 CS also receives brand new red-painted M Sport brake callipers with six-pistons for the front and four-pistons at the rear to grip the larger brake discs, 400mm diameter in the front and 380mm diameter at the rear. Customers can also opt for the BMW M Carbon ceramic brakes which are even lighter and can withstand more punishment while lasting longer. Adding to the handling of the vehicle is a CFRP strut brace and the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system which in combination with Active M Differential will either assist in keeping the traction in check while also allows a greater degree of wheel slip when the M Dynamic Mode has been selected.

The interior also sees the addition of lightweight garnishing, the centre console is made from lightweight carbon fibre while CFRP is used on the door pulls. The Merino leather and Alcantara covered seats is also produced using ultra-light materials in bucket-style construction. Alcantara can also be found on the armrest, centre console, trim strip bearing a large red CS logo and the optional M Sport steering wheel. Under the bonnet customers will find a 3.0-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder in-line engine which is capable of 331 kW and 550 N.m of torque and when fitted with the optional seven-speed M double-clutch transmission will sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds while achieving 4.2 seconds with the six-speed manual gearbox. The top speed is capped electronically at 280 km/h. In European markets, customers can expect to spend at least €95,000 while local pricing will be revealed closer to the second quarter of 2020 when the new BMW M2 CS will be available in South Africa.
