Sun City’s first hotel celebrates 40 years

Can you believe it, it’s been 40 years since the first hotel was first built at Sun City.

This past weekend the Soho celebrated its 40th birthday in style. Officially opened on December 7, 1979, some might have thought that Sol Kerzner’s decision to open a hotel in the middle of nowhere was a bizzare one. But, fast forward 40 years later, Sun City is one of the country’s top luxury resorts to visit.

As part of the celebration, the city has been hosting various activities and events including the promotion of the Big Birthday Bash which is taking place on December 7, 2019.

The celebration also included the Equal Chance Draw which was held at the Soho Hotel Casino. How it worked was that there was a ballot box with shuffled names of the people playing the draw, and a list of prizes which were to be given at random to a name picked out the ballot box. It was very exciting because each player involved knew they were going to win something.

Prizes included a day’s stay for two at one of the City’s ever luxurious hotels, vouchers to be enjoyed at various restaurants and shops and other fancy prizes.

Moreover, to continue the celebrations of the resort’s 40th birthday, 40 employees will receive a brand new bicycle, each thanks to the 2019 Sun City to The Table Bay Charity Cycle Tour on Saturday, August 17.
