Good and bad times in Dawn Park

Dawn Park resident writes,

As a resident of this suburb, there is good and bad news.

The good news is that following a petition by our street’s residents, we now have speed humps along Hassink Highway, never mind the fact that it was rejected at some stage.

Yet, and without sounding like an alarmist, a section of this street is slowly getting eroded just midway towards the Hassink/Sable and West Central Road four-way stop.

Chances are that should heavy rains come as expected, that section will at a later stage develop serious cracks and as such become a hindrance to road users.

The fact that Hassink generally experiences heavy volumes of traffic – private and commercial – the anticipated cracks will also come at a cost for the Ekurhuleni metro.

This will be the case because of the recklessness of some inconsiderate residents.

Five years or so ago there was a furrow running along Hassink at that very mentioned spot which allowed water not to spill over the street and things were okay.

Then new houses were built (nothing wrong with that) but some residents soon deemed it fit to defy authorities by opening gates at the back of their properties as shortcuts to their houses.
