Meet Gold Diggers local actress Phindile Zwane

While growing up she always loved being in the spotlight, not knowing that one day she would end up on our small screens.

Vosloorus born star Phindile Zwane (25), has been blessed with a role on e.tv’s telenovela, Gold Diggers.

Zwane plays the character of Dimpho, who unashamedly trades on her looks and sexuality.

Her character has numerous boyfriends and regards herself highly.

Zwane said, in an interview with the Advertiser, that she grew up as a loud child, who loved dancing and singing.

In those early days her parents and her primary school principal noticed her talent and encouraged her to study at the National School of Arts, where she nurtured her passion for acting.

Zwane matriculated in 2009, at the National School of Arts, and moved on to the South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance, where she studied film and television.

She has since been involved in numerous television projects, such as Zabalaza, where she worked in the props department for two years, until she resigned to pursue a career in acting.

She has appeared in SABC2’s drama series Mamello, Mzansi Magic’s soapie drama Ring of Lies and Gauteng Maboneng.

“I have always loved impersonating other people’s characters and this, I think, brought out the great actress in me,” she said.

“Also, being brought up in Vosloorus influenced me to have an open mindset of not being scared to hustle for something that I want.”

Zwane said her most treasured career highlight, one she will never forget, was when she landed the role on Gold Diggers.

“For me, the Gold Diggers gig came as a blessing, because before the role it was a dry season for me in terms of landing acting roles,” she added.

“I wasn’t called to any auditions, so when Gold Diggers came along I was so relieved.

“I am enjoying and learning a lot from actors who have been in the industry for quite some time.”

The outgoing Zwane said she hopes that, in the near future, she will land more lead roles.

She also shared her interest in other soapies and dramas, such as Scandal, Rhythm City, The Queen and Greed and Desire.

“I would like to thank my family, who have been supportive in regard to my career. As we all know, art is not a guaranteed job, but they have been supportive of me continuing to pursue my passion and dreams,” Zwane said.

She encouraged young people to believe in themselves, regardless of their situations.

“ Follow your dreams, change your attitude towards life, see life in a positive way and most of all pray, because that is where we find our answers,” she said.
