East Point shopping centre takes shape

Visitors to East Point (previously East Rand Galleria Shopping Centre) will notice a marked difference as the outside facade around Entrance 1 nears completion and construction of Entrance 2 kicks into high gear.

This is according to Marietjie Pienaar, East Point Centre Manager.

“The shopping centre is certainly coming to life as new sections are completed on a daily basis and much will be completed by the end of November in time for Christmas,” said Pienaar.

“Artists impressions of the completed shopping centre will be added at the temporary entrance and the new entrance for everyone to see.”

“Current structural renovations and building include the demolition of the old Barnyard Theatre and the new Entrance 2 being midway through construction.

“It is envisaged to be open during the course of December, in time for Christmas. There will be no construction taking place over the Festive Season.

“We’re excited to announce that the popular stores Adidas, Reebok, Lee Cooper, Superga, Kinky Hair and Levi’s will soon be opening at East Point,” said Pienaar.

“They will add to the already impressive lineup of fashionable stores, ensuring that we continue to bring shoppers the best possible experience and choice.”

She said most of the work will focus on the eastern side of the shopping centre where the new exterior food court will be constructed.

“This has allowed us to start moving all civil works (hoardings, equipment and construction materials) into a small area on the eastern side opening up the entire central and western parts to the public,” confirmed Pienaar.

“Additionally, by the end of November, internal mall tiling will be completed, the second ablution facility on the Pick n Pay side will be finished and the new Game parking access control will be in operation.

“Great strides will have been made to reopening Pick n Pay itself by the end of the year.

“We would like to emphasise that although Entrance 2 is still under construction, a temporary entrance is available to shoppers to access the eastern side shopping areas.

“Shops that remain open in this area are Carlton Hair, Cell Zone, Fashion World, Flight Centre, Golden Goose, Placecol, Simply Socks, Shoe City, Superior Tattoos and 3@1.

“Cell Clinics and Fashion Fusion will also be opening their doors to the public in November.”

“We thank our shoppers and tenants for their patience during this period of refurbishment.”
