CBC FC avenge local derby loss

CBC Football Club avenged their derby loss to Boksburg with a 4-1 thumping home victory on a cloudy and chilly Women’s Day.

An Eddie Cassonga strike separated the two sides in their reverse fixture in May.

Much like the previous fixture, the game proved to be a tight affair until the second-half, with both teams cancelling each other out and clear-cut chances coming sparingly.

Half-time score was 0-0.

The homeside got their noses in front after the restart before the Blues’ Donovan Sole equalised with a gem of a free-kick to leave the match perfectly poised for an entertaining finish.

CBC was not going to be denied; however, and they upped the ante to regain their one goal advantage, 2-1.

The floodgates would open, and the homeside added their third and fourth to complete the rout and leapfrog their rivals into sixth position on the log.

“It was a good performance,” said CBC coach Glen Brierley.

“We were prepared and the guys are happy with it.”

Asked of their game plan to avoid a consecutive loss to Boksburg coming into the match, Brierley added: “The plan was to try and stretch them as much as possible. We’ve been struggling with injuries and the plan was to put as much pressure on them as possible.”
