Band Fest searching for the new magical band

Do you have that first hit that will make you a star?

Well, this is your chance at fame.

Parkrand Primary School and Music Mate, in media partnership with the Boksburg Advertiser, brings you the Parkrand Primary “Listen to our hit!!” Band-fest 2014.

Let your song secure you a place in the final at Boksburg’s Parkrand Primary School on September 6 – so you can perform alongside Lonehill Estate and win the chance to record your song.

The competition is based on a band having that first hit that will catapult them to stardom … the song that will secure them a place in the final and, hopefully, win them a chance to record it.

This will enable them to take the hit to radio and promote it in cyberspace, such as on Youtube and other social media platforms.

At the finale a “feel good” vibe is expected to emerge, with prizes that are spread among the participants.

However, in order to get to the final, bands must audition in one of three heats at Music Mate stores, playing one cover song and one original composition, which will be their first hit.

Participating bands must ensure that they do not make use of malicious or malevolent content during their performance, and non-compliance will result in disqualification.

Once all the bands have auditioned in the shops, 10 will be chosen to perform in the final.

Participating bands will be judged on the following criteria:

* Commercial hook – 50 per cent

* Originality – 10 per cent

* Stage presence – 10 per cent

*Votes – 30 per cent

Music Mate will be handing out prizes for the bands at the finale and the winner and runner-up will record their hits at JB Studios www.jbrecordingstudios.co.za.

First prize will be two song recordings (a fully-produced hit and the follow-up single) and the second prize will be one song recording (two demos).

“One of the distinct features of Parkrand Primary School is its clarity of purpose; we believe in teaching knowledge, skills and values which our learners can take with them in their future endeavours,” says school principal Brandon Schunke about the school that initiated this contest.

“We work hard to live by our conviction that moral values and honest character are important in defining a person, and that academic success and the development of skills is a necessity in life.

“We believe in excellence. With high expectations, we constantly push ourselves to do and be better.”
