Athletes on track for greatness

The academy is focused on nurturing young athletes.

The Track Titans Academy nurtures and trains young athletes in Boksburg.

It was formally introduced in April.

The co-founder of the academy, Elize Barlett, said the academy was dedicated to developing young athletes and allowing them to be excellent in track and field.

“We offer a comprehensive training programme designed to nurture talent, inspire personal growth, and instill a culture of sportsmanship and achievement.

“The academy comprises two good coaches, myself and Dino Chizinga,” said Barlett.

She said Chizinga, an academy co-founder, was a certified expert in fitness and nutrition. He acquired his qualifications through the accredited institution Trifocus Academy.

“I’m qualified and an accomplished coach, holding certificates from prestigious athletics organisations, including Athletics South Africa, Central Gauteng Athletics and International Association of Athletics Federations,” said Barlett.

Chizinga said the programme started with talent identification sessions.

“In these sessions, we allow athletes to showcase their talents under the guidance of the coaching staff, including myself.

“Thereafter, we collaborate with other stakeholders when we go to schools. We collaborate with teachers to identify potential in track and field sporting codes, then absorb them in our academy,” he expressed.

He mentioned that after the talent identification phase, they worked closely with teachers to develop tailored training programmes for the absorbed athletes.

“Our coaching team, led by coach Barlett, focuses on building a solid foundation and preparing athletes for the upcoming track and field season.

“This phase is crucial for skill development and the overall athletic improvement of athletes,” he added.

Chizinga said when the competition season approached, Track Titans Academy assisted teachers by providing the final round-up training programmes to ensure athletes were fully prepared to excel in their respective events.

“The programme concentrates on refining techniques, addressing weaknesses, and boosting the confidence of the athletes before they participate in the competitions of choice,” he explained.
