Soccer player needs help to get to Sweden

“It would mean a lot to me to go to the Gothia Cup and get exposure. It’s a massive opportunity. Please help me.”

Germany International Soccer Academy (GIS) striker Blaze Marillier is excited at the opportunity to show the world what he’s capable of in the Gothia Cup in Sweden.

The 18-year old is part of the squad selected by GIS to represent the country in the Youth World Cup in the city of Gothenburg, from July 16 to 22.

“I’m very excited to go, it will be my first time traveling overseas. I cannot wait to see how the other teams play,” he said.

But the Benoni High matriculant might miss this opportunity due to a lack of funding.

According to his club, the total travel cost per player is R27 500 for accommodation and flight ticket.

“I’m pleading with Benonians and all South Africans to help me realise my dream and become what I’ve dreamt about since I was a child.

“It would mean a lot to go to Sweden and get exposure on the international fields. It’s a massive opportunity, ” pleaded Blaze.

The Northmead resident fell in love with the sport as a toddler, often enjoying a football kickabout in the family kitchen and garden.

“I’m not chasing a dream but a plan because I know I’m going to go pro. With the ball at my feet and doing what I love, this helps me forget about my problems,” said Blaze.

The youngster said he’s prepared to put in the hard work to succeed like his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo. He believes that talent alone won’t get him over the line.

“Being a teenager and getting an opportunity to show the world what I’m capable of is exciting, but first I have to get onto that plane.”
