Blackball thrashed Benoni Northerns 5-1 on homesoil

Blackball United players were eager to win the match.

Blackball United U12B defeated its arch-rivals Benoni Northerns 5-1 in a league match at Boksburg Stadium on May 20.

The most anticipated match began with both teams battling it out in the middle of the pitch. The visiting side (Benoni Northerns) looked more dangerous but failed to utilise its opportunities.

The home side (Blackball United) punished the visiting side with good interchange passes that led to the first goal of the match, which was scored by Njabulo Molatana.

Molatana then started a stunning build-up play from the middle of the park and unleashed a powerful shot when the opportunity presented itself, but the goalkeeper pulled off a great save.

Blackball scored a second, thanks to a fantastic counter-attack, sealed by Thuto Maimela with a tap-in. The home side was absorbing the pressure and relying on counter-attacks to punish the visiting side on several occasions during the match.

Molatana seemed to have unfinished business as he pulled off a long-range curler which was saved by the goalkeeper and Maimela capitalised on the rebound ball and scooped his brace. Blackball extended its lead to 3-0.

Blackball was more confident after the third goal, dictating possession and mounting pressure on the visiting side. The home side later scooped the fourth goal of the match through another counter-attack and Liam Webster didn’t disappoint he beat the goalkeeper with a low-level shot.

Kgotso Tsotetsi also didn’t miss the opportunity to be on the scoresheet with a spectacular shot.
