Rita continues to dominate

She completed the first 25km in 02:31:35, running at 06:04 min/km. She upped the ante in the second half of the race, clocking 02:26:09 at an impressive 05:51 min/km for a combined time of 04:57:44 to finish 117th overall.

Boksburg’s long distance runner Rita van Wyk continued her impressive season with another dominant display on the road.

The Boksburg Athletic Club member was once again on the podium on April 29, this time at the 50km N12 Ultra Marathon at North West University’s McArthur Stadium in Potchefstroom.

Van Wyk was the first lady at the finish in the women’s grandmaster (60+) category after cutting the ribbon in 04:57:44, becoming the 13th woman to cross the line.

She completed the first 25km in 02:31:35, running at 06:04 min/km. Van Wyk then upped the ante in the second half of the race, clocking 02:26:09 at an impressive 05:51 min/km for a combined time of 04:57:44 to finish 117th overall.

The women’s race was won by Nobukhosi Tshuma while Daniel Manja won the men’s race.

Thabang Mosiako won the men’s 10km and Central Gauteng Athletics’ Lebo Phalula won the women’s 10km event.
