Local runners dominate in the Vaal

The Cape Gate Vaal Marathon took place on March 5. It was a qualifier for the Two Oceans Marathon and Comrades Marathon.

The Boksburg Athletic Club’s (BAC) Zachariah Banda Mogotsi and Edward Banda finished in first and second place respectively in the men’s grandmaster category at the Cape Gate Vaal Marathon on March 5 held at Dick Fourie Stadium in Vereeniging.

Mogotsi crossed the line in 03:38:52 for first place, beating the 59 participants in the over-60 category.Banda claimed the silver medal in a time of 03:42:02. Vivian Augustine from Run Zone rounded off the podium.

In the half-marathon, couple Rita and Chris van Wyk were on the podium again.

Rita claimed a bronze medal in the women’s 50-59 category, completing her race in 01:53:11 and Chris also grabbed a bronze in the men’s grandmaster category, finishing in 02:09:49.

Raphael Segodi won the men’s marathon while Patricia Gouws from Jeppe won the women’s race.

Thabiso Mosekili and Bernadette Mcloud won the men’s and women’s 21.1km respectively.
