Cardinals impress in league games

Boksburg Cardinals played well in separate matches.

The U12 and U15 Boksburg Cardinals teams played well during their Gauteng Province Baseball Council league matches on home soil.

The U15s thrashed Dakota 19-9 on March 2, while the U12 team displayed a spectacular comeback on March 6 to draw against Benoni Indians that was leading 4-0 during the early stages of their match.

Apart from the U15s impressing with the bat, the base-clearing doubles from Liam Karels and Ayden van der Westhuizen helped the team scoop the victory.

Declan Esterhuizen’s clinical pitching performance sealed the deal for the home team. In another match, the U12s never gave up fighting to take a draw. Good plays from infielders and great pitching from Jordan Visser and Riley Greyvenstien ensured the home team levelled the score.

The junior chairperson of the Boksburg Cardinals, Christopher de Wet, said he is proud of his teams.

“All the league matches that took place on separate days were fun to watch. We were expecting both games to be tough. They were competitive, but our boys played their hearts out during their games,” said De Wet.

The Cardinals U8s also enjoyed a friendly match against Imps on Sunday. The team played well with Kira-Lee Jeacocks named the man of the match.
