Team Brazil beat Croatia 5-4 on penalties following a one-all draw in regular time to win the Astroplex World Cup Fever tournament on November 26 at Benoni Lake Club in Lakefield.

The tournament featured 18 teams from Gauteng and one from Durban. Held in the spirit of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, each team represents a country of their choice.

Following tough round-robin fixtures, Croatia beat Algeria on penalties in the first knockout match while Brazil defeated South Africa 2-1 in the second semi-final.

“The event was well attended by the public who were treated to excellent football by the participating teams.

“Thanks to all the teams for playing the game in the right spirit. Thanks to all the spectators who contributed to a carnival atmosphere,” said Astroplex chairperson Abdul Rehman Sibda.
