U7 awarded for winning Easterns League

The team played well in the past soccer season, and it is looking forward to the upcoming one.

The Boksburg FC U7 team received a championship trophy and medals for winning the Easterns League.

The awards were handed over to the team during a prize-giving ceremony that was held at Greek Sporting Club in Bedfordview, on October 1.

Coach of the U7, Ernest Seforo, said he is happy to have won the league and receive an award for it.

“What happened to my team is remarkable. We had no ambitions to win the league, but we won it, and our primary goal was only to improve our playing style as team. I think we achieved more than we anticipated,” stated Seforo.

This is the same team that won the league in 2021 as the U6 team said the coach.

“They dominated in a tough division as the newcomers this year.”

He explained that as coaches of the team, they are very proud of the team players, because they listened to their instructions and applied them in during soccer matches.

“I still believe that gave them a better chance of regrouping and building from scratch in their games. And from those build-ups they created better scoring opportunities, they used those opportunities and led in the log throughout the season,” said Seforo.

He added that he didn’t put pressure on his players to win games during the season, but it was the players who were hungry to win the league.

Seforo elaborated that his main objective in coaching the team was to impart basic football skills to young players, but to his surprise they learned quickly and played good football during their games.

“I think the winning spirit developed in them as the soccer season progressed, they even went as far as informing me that they don’t want to concede goals anymore, and clarified to me that conceding goals is as good as losing for them.

“They are going to play in a new division in the upcoming soccer season, they will be playing in the U8 division, which is totally different from the U7 division. It will be a new phase for us coaches and them.

“They must expect to play on bigger fields, with bigger goal posts. There will also be more players playing on the pitch, instead of 5 vs 5 like in the U7 division going down. There will be 7 vs 7 players playing on the pitch in the U8 division.

“They must be prepared for the upcoming season, because they will no longer be kick-ins , but throw-ins for them, and I hope my players will adopt to the playing style of the U8 division quickly,” he stated.

He explained that there’s a lot they need to do as a team to prepare for upcoming soccer season. He also took the opportunity to thank all the parents that supported his team in the past season and hopes they will do the same in the upcoming season.
