Players shine at football camp

They stood out from hordes of young hopefuls eager to impress English Premier League club Fulham FC’s academy coaches, Lee Cowling and Josh Weston.

Superstars Academy players Lwazi Ngobese and Bryce Sampson scooped the best junior and senior players’ accolades at the Fulham International Football Camp held at Camp Discovery from September 9 to 11.

Lwazi and Bryce stood out from hordes of young hopefuls eager to impress English Premier League club Fulham FC’s academy coaches, Lee Cowling and Josh Weston.

Superstars Academy’s coach Calvin Deetlefs said this was the result of the hard they are putting behind the scenes.

“I could not be more proud of what the boys showcased at the camp.

“Not only watching but also participating in the sessions with Lee and Josh was refreshing,” he said.

Cowling and Weston also assisted the academy’s coaches with their three-day coaching course.

Weston advised the players to be disciplined if they want to play football at the highest level.

“Everyone has a dream of becoming a professional player. In my opinion, if you keep learning by listening to your coaches and doing your learning, being resilient and aspiring to be the best, then you will reap the rewards,” said Weston.

Emang Molefe, director of Football 101 and organiser of the camp, said he was impressed by the talent and football IQ of the Superstars Academy players.

“There’s still a journey to take to become a professional footballer and that’s why we have camps like these in South Africa. I’m happy to see that the academy’s players are headed in the right direction and are led by passionate management and teachable coaches.”
