Girls soccer team a first for Boksburg

The team plays matches on weekly basis.

The coach of Boksburg FC Vets and U7, Ernest Seforo, introduced the first Boksburg girls’ soccer team called Bokamoso FC, on August 30.

Seforo said he formed the team to improve the development of women’s football in South Africa and he also wants to give the girls of Boksburg a chance to play football.

“Most girls have football talents, they just need an opportunity to refine and showcase them. It was important for me to form this team because I had a lot of girls who played in my boys’ teams before the inception of this team. So by establishing this team, I want to change that and give them a fair chance of playing with other girls,” said Seforo.

He mentioned that he coached Boksburg FC teams for a long time and during that period he sent some of the girls who played with the boys to well-known girls’ teams.

“There’s a girl player who played in the boys’ team that I just took to the trials of the Tuks girls team recently. They were impressed with her performance and she was taken to be part of the team and she was also offered an educational bursary at the school.

“The player is doing well in her current team, so my current plan with the new girls’ team is to unearth young talented girls players and make sure they are nurtured to be soccer players at a very young age.

“Not every girl wants to be a netball player, so girls should be allowed to explore other sporting codes.
Seforo added that they have 17 girls that have joined the team, but they need more players to join the team, so they can have different age group teams.

“I’m taking this opportunity to encourage girls to come and join our team. Our training sessions are on Fridays. They start at 17:00 at Prince George Stadium.

“Young girls shouldn’t feel excluded in the soccer fraternity. So we need the Boksburg residents’ assistance for the team to triumph.

Anyone with any unused soccer boots can help the team by donating them to the coach and founder of Bokamoso FC, Ernest Seforo.
