Dedicated karateka eyes World Championship glory

Roxy Postma (14) from Boksburg is heading to Sweden this July to represent South Africa at the WUKF World Karate Championship.

Roxy Postma (14) of Boksburg, is preparing to represent South Africa at the 13th World Unions of Karate Federations (WUKF) World Championship in Malmö, Sweden, in July.

The Boksburg High School learner’s journey follows a series of groundbreaking achievements, including a gold-silver medal haul at the WUKF South African National Championship & Afro-Asia Open recently.

The national team will travel to Sweden to compete in both kata and kumite events.

According to her mother, Reza Postma, Roxy’s journey began just six years ago as a white belt.

“Through dedication and the expert guidance of her senseis at Goju Karate Academy in Parkrand, she earned her junior black belt in November, a major milestone in her young career.
“Her passion for karate is undeniable. She trains diligently, never missing a session, and continues to thrive through hard work and discipline.
“Dedication at this level is non-negotiable and Roxy has shown that every step of the way,” said Reza.

Roxy, a learner at Boksburg High School, is no stranger to success. At the recent WUKF South African National Championship & Afro-Asia Open, she earned an impressive medal haul – gold in individual kata , silver in individual kumite, gold in team rotational kumite and fifth place in unison kata.

“These achievements also earned her Martial Art South Africa (MASA) WUKF Gauteng provincial colours, reinforcing her reputation as one of the province’s most promising young martial artists.
“Her selection for the world championship in Sweden has surpassed all expectations.
“Earning her junior black belt was a huge accomplishment, but this opportunity is beyond what we could have imagined,” Reza shared.

Now, the family is working hard to raise funds for the trip.
