Dojo does medal sweep

Some karatekas are preparing to step into the international arena in Sweden.

The Goju Karate Academy in Parkrand recently hosted the Goshukan Invitational Tournament at the Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre.

Twenty-two dojos from across Gauteng participated, with 330 athletes competing.

The dojo finished at the top of the medal table, claiming 118 medals – 41 gold, 39 silver and 38 bronze.

According to fourth dan Tarryn Madgwick, the athletes continuously hone their skills by participating in friendly tournaments as they prepare to compete at the World Union of Karate-Do Federations World Championships in Sweden next year.
