Local rugby player part of SA Deaf Rugby team

The club is proud of the player's achievement.

Michael Els from the Boksburg Rugby Club has been called to join the squad representing South African Deaf Rugby in the 7s and 10s series at the August Internationals in Johannesburg.

Els (28), who has a mental disorder and is hearing impaired, started playing for the Owls in 2021.

He is currently representing the club’s U21 team and plays flank (openside or blindside).The talented player’s mother, Elize Janse van Rensburg, said she was in tears when she got the news that he was included in the squad.

“We’re so proud of him. He’s over the moon about the achievement and feels that his hard work has borne fruit,” said Janse van Rensburg.
