Locals off to Cape Town for pool champs

The team’s preparation is going well.

Janrico Schlebusch, Tian Pieters and Gregory Garland from Boksburg are in the team to represent the Eastern Gauteng Pool Association at the South African National Championships in Cape Town from September 29 to October 5.

They will compete in the Open B1 category (for all ages).

Speaking to the Boksburg Advertiser ahead of the championships, Schlebusch said it is an honour to represent Eastern Gauteng and that preparations for the tournament are going well.

“We have meetings every weekend with the team manager, Ivan Smith. He is also the vice chairperson of the Eastern Gauteng Pool Association,” said Schlebusch, also a team organiser.

The members selected to represent the Eastern Gauteng Pool Association at the nationals in Cape Town.

Schlebusch has been a pool player for about seven years, and what he likes about the sport is that he gets to meet new people and travel.
“I also like how the support for pool is growing. It is becoming competitive in SA and abroad,” he said.

This year, the Eastern Gauteng Pool Association celebrates its 36th year of playing pool competitively nationally, and through Pool South Africa, internationally.
